Benefitting the Community
As our loved ones grow older, many of them choose to stay in the comfort of their own homes—where memories live and routines bring peace. But with age also comes the worry: what happens if they fall? Or feel unwell when no one’s around? These concerns weigh heavily on both our seniors and their families.
Recognising this, the Ministry of National Development (MND), together with GovTech, HDB, iWOW, and SPTel, have come together to roll out a nationwide panic button project. It’s a simple tool with a powerful purpose—helping our seniors get help when they need it most, and giving families peace of mind, knowing support is just a press away.
About the Panic Button Project
To support seniors living in rental flats, the panic button project is being rolled out to provide help at the press of a button. Seniors aged 60 and above will have an Alert Device installed in their homes, allowing them to quickly call for help if they feel unwell, fall, or face any emergency.
When the button is pressed, a notification is sent instantly to nearby Active Ageing Centres (AACs) and CareLine—a 24/7 support hotline run by Changi General Hospital. Theseteams will receive the senior’s case information through the GALE Alert System and respond promptly to ensure help arrives quickly.
This initiative gives our seniors greater peace of mind and helps them continue living independently, knowing that support is always close by. By 2030, 170 HDB blocks, encompassing over 1,000 senior citizens will have benefitted from this project.

Why the Panic Button Project Matters
Technology with Heart:
Building a Safer, Smarter Home for Our Seniors
Behind every panic button deployed is infrastructure designed to make life safer and more comfortable for our seniors—and that solution needs to be reliable, sustainable, and ready to grow with our nation’s needs.
That’s where SPTel comes in, working closely with partners like iWoW and key Government agencies to bring this vision to life.

Keeping Devices Connected, the Smart and Green Way
Enabling Fast and Sustainable Deployment with an Island-Wide LoRaWAN Sensor Network Powered by Solar Power
SPTel has built the first low-power long-range wide area network (LoRaWAN) in the heartlands of Singapore. This solution will allow devices to connect wirelessly to each other and acts as an alternative to 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi options for IoT use cases with low data transmission requirements. This cutting-edge sensor network is built to business class specifications that supports all devices regardless of vendor, device type or technical specification to power sustainability, public health and safety.

Growing with Our Seniors’ Needs
Making Smart Nation Solutions Scalable with IoT-a-a-S
As our community’s needs change, our technology needs to grow with it. That’s why SPTel offers a ready IoT platform that makes it easy to roll out smart solutions across the country quickly and at scale. It comprises of an IoT management platform, Edge Cloud platform, IoT gateways, connectivity and adjacent services such as analytics. This holistic IoT solution supports end-to-end deployment of Smart Nation IoT solutions without the hassles of integration and manging interoperability, so future solutions can be added on easily.
This award-winning solution is scalable and future-ready to help Singapore move confidently towards its Smart Nation goals, while always putting people first.
Benefits of the Sensor Network paired
with IoT-a-a-S
Ready solution that can connect up all Smart Nation IoT solutions, regardless of provider, on a common device management platform.

Fast Deployment
Ready solution that can connect up all Smart Nation
ToT solutions, regardless of provider, on a common
device management Platform.

Scalable
As the nation’s IoT needs grow, organisations can add devices as and when they are needed, all connected via the same Sensor Network and supported by a ready IoT-a-a-S platform.

Enhanced security & data sovereignty
Sensor Network gateways are housed in secure physical locations. Smart facilities ensure minimal disruptions. Data transmitted from the Sensor Network to the IoT-a-a-S platform stays in Singapore.

Extensive Network
Available indoors and outdoors with multiple gateways covering 70% of heartlands, 42% of hawker centres and 52% town councils and growing.

Sustainable
LoRaWAN enables low power transmission of data so that batteries can last up to 10 years. SPTel’s gateways are fitted with slower panels so clean energy is used to power our solution.
Building a Smarter Singapore Together
Smart Nation is not just about one big idea or fancy gadget—it’s about how technology can support us in our daily lives, bring people closer together, and help make Singapore a better place for everyone.
