“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

A patient listening ear and paying keen attention to details plays a key role in becoming a successful Product Manager. Why do we say so? With good listening skills, a Product Manager can effectively craft innovative products by paying attention to feedback from the ground and ensuring no detail is missed out. Our Product Manager, Joyce Liang processes this very trait that makes her excel in her role of managing the development of the SPTel’s product portfolio and its life cycle.

Armed with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance & Marketing) and certifications by the Association of International Product Marketing and Management (AIPMM) and Association of International Product Marketing and Management (AIPMM), Joyce brings with her more than 20 years of experience, mainly in the Telecommunications Industry.

Having experienced the evolution of the telecommunications industry, from paging to cloud, Joyce is excited to join a young and growing organisation here at SPTel. Particularly, Joyce is thrilled to be part of the team introducing cutting edges projects such as Singapore’s First End-to-End Portal with Zero-Touch Provisioning. She is especially excited by the opportunity to be hands on with the project and get involved in every activity within the team.

With her wealth of experience in the industry, we asked her what the key to success is.

“It’s your attitude towards the job. When you know something needs to get done, pull the team together, decide and go. No matter how difficult the request may be.”

She doesn’t make this statement lightly, in fact she shares a memorable experience that ties in closely with it.

“In my previous role, my team was given a 1-day turnaround time to provide WIFI to an open space for a large event that a VIP was gracing. The team quickly gathered to brainstorm ideas and come up with a solution. Despite the immense pressure and the short timeframe, we were able to deliver the solution in time for the event.”

And because they listened carefully to the problem statement, they took care of everything, down to the last detail.

“As it was an open space, you can imagine that it’s almost impossible to find a space to hide an unsightly router. We resolved this by deploying an engineer to be stationed at the event to babysit and hide the unsightly router from the guests.”

We asked Joyce to share with us her work philosophy and how she keeps calm in the face of such challenges. Her response?

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

Joyce works by this meaningful phrase and steps up to the challenge of being in a lean team of members, constantly striving to be the team member that is “always there, sharing the same values and working towards the same goal”.

When not tackling various projects and challenges with her team, Joyce enjoys catching up with her friends over good food as well as cooking and crafting.
